| Wilt Thou Go With This Man? Genesis 24:58 Ge:24:58: And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go. Introduction: A. Our message today will cover the entire 24th chapter of Genesis. It is the story of Abraham sending his servant to seek out a bride for his son Isaac. B. James Smith, a great Bible scholar, in his book, Handfuls on Purpose, said, �It is the epitome of the scheme of salvation. C. Lets meet the characters in this drama: 1. The bride - Rebekah. 2. The father - Abraham. 3. The son - Isaac. 4. The servant - Eliezer. D. These four characters picture to us God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit and the church. 1. The bride - the church. 2. The father, Abraham - God. 3. Isaac - Jesus. 4. Eliezer - The Holy Spirit. I. The Bible Declares A Bride A. The fact of a bride. John 3:29a He that hath the bride is the bridegroom. 2 Cor. 11:2b for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. Rev. 22:17a And the Spirit and the bride say come. Eph. 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church. II. The Son Desires A Bride A. Isaac's mother had died; he was lonely and griefstricken. B. The very nature of a man is to desire a wife, a companion. God made them that way. C. Jesus, God's Son, like Isaac, desires a bride. 1. The following scriptures show clearly the longing of His heart. Matt. 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Lk. 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. 2. He came from glory to suffer, bleed and die that, "He might save a people for His Namesake." Tit. 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Illustration: A minister was conducting a revival in one of the British Islands. There the people are precise in their English. They speak very distinctly, and conduct themselves in a distinguished, and formal manner. In one of the services when the invitation was given, this fine young lady walked down the isle, and said to the minister, "Sir, I desire to receive Jesus." And the minister replied, "And Jesus desires to receive you." III. The Father Determined a Bride A. Father Abraham thought it out, and planned the whole situation. B. Just as the entire operation was of Abraham; just so, salvation is all of God. C. The father's purpose was to bring a bride for his son, Isaac. God, the Father of Jesus, purposed to bring a bride for His Son. Eph. 1:3-6 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ/ According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. IV. The Spirit Discovered The Bride A. He was sent for one purpose, and that, to tell the woman about the Son. B. He was told where to go, and where not to go. C. He searched diligently. D. He found the right one. E. He gave her gifts belonging to the son. F. The decision was her's. "Wilt thou go with me?" G. She made the decision, "I will go." H. He guided her, protected her, encouraged her all the way home. I. The meeting. Together forever. |
